Turkey is located between Europe and Asia, and shares borders with Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq and Syria. The sunny, warm climate is comparable with other southern European countries. Turkey is undergoing huge changes at the moment to allow it full membership of the European Union, this is expected in 2015.
It seems that the Turkish tourist industry is set for huge growth over the next 5 to 10 years. In 2007, 23.8 million foreign tourists visited Turkey, an increase of 29 percent from 2006. The country currently only has 20 golf courses but 100 new courses are planned, in a move they hope will help rival Spain as a destination for golfers.
Around 70% of all tourist arrivals are to Mugla, a southwestern province which has over 1,100 kilometres of coastline. Many of the new golf courses are planned in Mugla and the average cost per round is set to be considerably less than Spain’s Costa Del Sol. Capital appreciation is currently around 15%, due to recent infrastructure improvements.
With the Spanish property market currently in freefall, Turkey could be a cheaper, and more profitable alternative. The price of 2 bedroom apartments start at around €50,000.
